Fireplace Cladding
Calce Avorio and Porfido Marrone

Oblica, a leader in contemporary fireplace design, has opened its new showroom in Rosebery, Sydney a space that beautifully balances warmth, craftmanship, and architectural elegance. Known for redefining how fireplaces can transform a space, Oblica, has long been celebrated for introducing European designed heating solutions that merge technology with artistry. Their Rosebery showroom takes this ethos further, offering visitors a sensory experience where design and functionality meet in perfect harmony.

To create a seamless and sculptural finish for their fireplace displays, Oblica collaborated with Studio Porcelain, the NSW distributor for Laminam, to clad their fireplaces in Laminam large format porcelain slabs. The selected colours, Calce Avorio, Porfido Marone, and Noir Desir were carefully chosen to complement the tones and textures of Oblica‘s product range. Each colour reflects a different mood: the soft warmth of Calce Avorio, the earthy richness of Porfido Marone, and the striking sophistication of Noir Desir.

For the large fireplace, Laminam’s 1620 x 3240 mm slab was selected to provide expansive coverage with minimal joins.

This allows designers and architects to achieve a seamless, uninterrupted aesthetic that complements the clean lines of Oblica’s fireplaces.

For the smaller fireplaces, the 1000 x 3000 mm slabs were chosen to deliver the same refined look at an appropriate scale.

Why Laminam was the Perfect Choice

Laminam‘s unique qualities make it an ideal material for fireplace cladding. The slabs are non-combustible, ensuring complete safety when used around heat sources, while their lightweight nature and slim 5mm thickness make them easy to handle and install – even in complex architectural applications. Beyond safety, Laminam is also highly durable, scratch resistant, and stain-resistant, maintaining its beautiful finish even in high use environments.

For the large fireplace, Laminam‘s 1620 × 3240 mm slab was selected to provide expansive coverage with minimal joins. This allows designers and architects to achieve a seamless, uninterrupted aesthetic that complements the clean lines of Oblica‘s fireplaces. For the smaller fireplaces, the 1000 × 3000 mm slabs were chosen to deliver the same refined look at an appropriate scale.

Behind the installation was Casa Marble, whose expertise as stonemasons ensured a flawless result. Laminam‘s manufacturing process, where slabs were produced without a mould, eliminating internal tension, allows the material to be flexible and easy to work with. This innovation makes Laminam a preferred choice for stonemasons and fabricators, offering superior workability compared to other porcelain brands while maintaining outstanding strength and precision.

About Laminam

Originating in Italy, Laminam pioneered the concept of large-format porcelain slabs. Each slab is made using cutting-edge technology that replicates the natural formation of stone through a sustainable process. The result is a material that combines the beauty of natural stone with the performance of advanced porcelain.

Laminam surfaces are resistant to heat, UV light, water, and chemicals, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. They are also hygienic and easy to maintain, with a low-porosity surface that prevents the absorption of dirt and liquids. From benchtops and splashbakcs to floor, walls and facades, Laminam offers designers limitless creative potential across residential and commercial projects.

About Oblica

Founded with a vision to reimagine the role of the fireplace in modern living. Oblica represents a new era in heating design. The brand curates a collection of architecturally designed fireplaces, sourced from leading European manufacturers including JC Bordelet, Skantherm, and Lacunza. Each piece is chosen for its ability to combine cutting-edge performance with sculptural design.

At their new Rosebery showroom, visitors can explore a curated selection of wood, gas, and electric fireplaces in a series of immersive settings that demonstrate how heat, design, and atmosphere can coexist beautifully. The addition of Laminam clad fireplaces brings a refined textural element to the space, showcasing how surface selection can completely transform a fireplace into a centrepiece of design.

The Result

Oblica‘s new showroom is more than a display of fireplaces, it’s a celebration of craftmanship, design innovation, and material excellence. The collaboration between Oblica, Studio Porcelain, and Casa Marble exemplifies how thoughtful material choices like Laminam can enhance architectural expression, providing both beauty and performance.
